TOURNAMENT EXPANDS INTO FAIRFIELD COUNTY
TOURNAMENT HOSTS NEW OFFICE GRAND OPENING RECEPTION AT TRUMP PARC
STAMFORD, Conn., March 2, 2010 – The Travelers Championship, Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event, today announced its expansion into Fairfield County with the opening of an office at 707 Summer Street in Stamford. Connecticut business leaders, charity representatives and tournament staff gathered at Trump Parc Stamford for a grand opening to celebrate the tournament’s growth and success.
“We are excited for the opportunity to be a bigger part of the Fairfield County community,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “The Travelers Championship is a premier statewide event, and we’re eager to continue to have a great partnership with the businesses, volunteers, charities and fans of Connecticut. Without them, the success of this tournament would not be possible.”
The Travelers Companies, Inc. initiated their title sponsorship of Connecticut’s legendary PGA TOUR event in 2007, after having been involved as a sponsor every year since the tournament’s inception in 1952.
“The Travelers Championship has seen a great amount of success over the past three years, and there’s room to grow,”said Andy Bessette, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Travelers. “This tournament belongs to the entire state, and opening the office here in Stamford helps to raise awareness about the benefits the tournament can bring to charities, businesses and the community of Southern Connecticut.”
The Travelers Championship has received great support with its recent expansion, including a partnership with the Business Council of Fairfield and office space donated by The Ashforth Company.
“We are delighted that the Travelers Championship is expanding its presence in Fairfield County,” said Chris Bruhl, president and chief executive officer for the Business Council of Fairfield. “Connecticut’s PGA TOUR event is an important part of our state’s civic life and makes enormously important investments in community organizations.”
The Travelers Championship, which is part of the FedExCup, will be held June 21 – 27, 2010, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. The PGA TOUR event attracts some of the world’s best golfers to compete for a week of high-energy professional golf. In addition, the tournament will once again complement golf with a variety of activities for all to enjoy, including Military Appreciation, Fan & Family Day, Women’s Day, a Concert Series after play and the on-course Fan Zone featuring miniature golf, a wine garden, dining areas and more.
