Viktor Hovland
Defending Champion

2026 Recap
Viktor Hovland needed one extra hole – and one extra day – to defeat the No. 1-ranked player in the world and capture the 2026 Travelers Championship. Hovland rolled in a 7-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, then watched as Scottie Scheffler missed his birdie attempt from 4 feet. That gave Hovland the victory in the final Signature Event of the PGA TOUR season and the first Monday finish since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007. The additional day was needed when rain suspended final-round play on Sunday for 90 minutes. When play resumed, Hovland erased a two-stroke deficit by making birdies at the 14th and 15th holes, pulling into a tie with Scheffler, who was looking for his second victory at TPC River Highlands in three years. Both players made pars on the final three holes to finish at 21-under-par, but with darkness looming, the PGA TOUR elected to contest the playoff on Monday morning. In front of a large crowd surrounding the 18th hole – including a number of fans from Norway, Hovland’s home country – the playoff hole saw both players find the fairway with their tee shots, then both hit the green to set up close looks at birdie. A Hovland make and a Scheffler miss decided it, to the delight of the Norwegians, who did the “Viking Row” with Hovland when it was all over. During Friday’s second round, both players flirted with shooting 59; Scheffler parred the last two holes to shoot 60, while Hovland settled for a 61. It put them in the final pairing on both Saturday and Sunday. Collin Morikawa had his own 61 on Sunday to finish one shot out of the playoff and alone in third place. Matt Fitzpatrick was another stroke back at 19-under, while U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark and Akshay Bhatia tied for fifth place at 18-under. It was the eighth career PGA TOUR victory for Hovland, who made his professional debut at the Travelers Championship in 2019.
