TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCES FIVE MORE PLAYERS FIVE MORE
PLAYERS COMMIT LED BY RYDER CUP CAPTAIN PAVIN
HARTFORD, Conn., June 15, 2010 – The Travelers Championship announced the addition of five top players to its field today. Corey Pavin, Lee Janzen, Boo Weekley, Scott Verplank and Bill Haas were added to a list of players who have committed to play in the PGA TOUR event, June 21 – 27, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
Corey Pavin, the 2010 Ryder Cup captain, is a 15-time winner on the PGA TOUR which includes a win in the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. Currently splitting time between the PGA TOUR and Champions TOUR, Pavin has four top-ten finishes this year. Pavin has five top-ten finishes at the Travelers Championship in 17 career appearances.
Two-time PGA TOUR winner Boo Weekley will be making his third start at the Travelers Championship. Weekley was a member of the victorious 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup team, finishing with a record of 2-0-1 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. He has made 10 of 16 cuts this season, with his best finish being a tie for ninth place at the Crowne Plaza Invitational.
Currently ranked 47th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Scott Verplank has earned two top-five finishes in 2010. He has five career victories on the PGA TOUR and will be making his 10th trip to TPC River Highlands. Verplank has two U.S. Ryder Cup appearances, in 2002 and 2006, plus he has contributed to two victories in the Presidents Cup.
Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen will be making his 13th appearance at the Travelers Championship next week. He has eight career wins on the PGA TOUR and his best showing in 2010 is a fourth place finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Janzen has also played in two Ryder Cups and one Presidents Cup.
Bill Haas, one of the hottest young players on TOUR, recorded his first career win at the Bob Hope Classic in February. He is currently 14th in the FEDEX CUP standings and has made 11 cuts in 14 starts this season.
They join already committed players Padraig Harrington, Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh, Hunter Mahan, Stewart Cink, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, John Daly, Rickie Fowler and more. The Travelers Championship is the PGA TOUR’s only early summer stop in the Northeast and will be held June 21 – 27, 2010, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
