MAHAN WINS SHELL HOUSTON OPEN
HUMBLE, Texas, April 1, 2012 – Hunter Mahan earned his second PGA TOUR victory of the year today at the Shell Houston Open. Mahan shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to win by one shot over Carl Pettersson.
Mahan, who won the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship in February, is the first multiple winner on the PGA TOUR this year. The victory today moved Mahan to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings, which makes him the top ranked American player heading into The Masters.
The 29-year-old Mahan earned his fifth career PGA TOUR victory and moved to No. 1 in the FedExCup standings. In seven starts in 2012, Mahan has six top-25 finishes.
