JASON DAY, ZACH JOHNSON, KEEGAN BRADLEY, AND JONAS BLIXT COMMIT TO THE 2014 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2014 field is shaping up to be one of the strongest in tournament’s history
HARTFORD, Conn., April 29, 2014 – The Travelers Championship has added four top-ranked players to an already deep field as Jason Day, Zach Johnson, Keegan Bradley, and Jonas Blixt have committed to play the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands from June 16 to 22. Day, Johnson, Bradley, and Blixt are all currently in the top 35 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
“Jason, Zach, Keegan and Jonas are some of the biggest stars on TOUR,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Our tournament field is becoming one of the strongest in our history and the addition of these great players should create some outstanding competition and excitement this year.”
Jason Day, one of game’s best young stars, is currently No. 6 in the OWGR and No. 22 in the FedExCup Rankings. He already has two TOUR wins – including a victory at this year’s World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship – six second-place, and 32 top-10 finishes. He regularly is at the top of major leaderboards, and has finished runner-up in majors three times, earning second-place finishes in the 2011 Masters and the 2011 and 2013 U.S. Opens. He also earned a third-place finish at the 2013 Masters and tied for eighth at the 2013 PGA Championship. He’ll be making his first appearance at TPC River Highlands since 2008.
Zach Johnson has become a fixture at the Travelers Championship and is a crowd favorite. Currently ranked No. 10 in the FedExCup Rankings and No. 12 in the OWGR, Johnson has four top-10 finishes this season including a victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. The 2007 Masters Champion is one of the game’s most consistent players – he’s earned at least one TOUR victory seven of the last eight years – and has 11 career victories, 56 top-10 finishes, and has earned more than $32 million in career earnings. Johnson will be making his ninth appearance at TPC River Highlands in the last 11 years.
2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley is currently No. 19 in the OWGR and No. 20 in the FedExCup Rankings. Bradley is one of the game’s top players, with three victories, four second-place finishes, 19 top-10 finishes, and nearly $13 million since turning professional in 2008. He was also named the PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year in 2011. This season, Bradley has eight top-25 finishes in 13 events. The New England native will be making his fourth straight appearance at the Travelers Championship.
Jonas Blixt is one of the game’s rising players, evidenced by his performance at this year’s Masters, which was the first time he competed at Augusta National Golf Club. Currently No. 34 in the OWGR and No. 47 in the FedExCup Rankings, Blixt has five top-25 finishes in 12 events, and more than $1.2 million in season earnings. Blixt owns two victories on the PGA TOUR as he won both the 2012 Frys.com Open and the 2013 Greenbrier Classic. Blixt has stepped up his game in major championships. In only three major starts, he owns a pair of top five finishes including a second place finish at this year’s Masters and solo fourth finish at the 2013 PGA Championship. This will be Blixt’s second straight appearance at TPC River Highlands.
Day, Johnson, Bradley, and Blixt join one of the most competitive and deepest fields in Travelers Championship history. Two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan, Patrick Reed, and reigning champion Ken Duke have all already committed to the tournament.
