JASON DAY COMMITS TO 2018 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP
HARTFORD, Conn., May 15, 2018 – The Travelers Championship today announced that Jason Day, a 12-time winner on the PGA TOUR and No. 7-ranked player in the world, has committed to play in the 2018 tournament.
“Adding Jason to our field is fantastic news for the tournament and our fans,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Jason is one of the world’s best players, so having him return to TPC River Highlands reflects our mission of bringing the world’s greatest golfers to Connecticut every year.”
Day, a 30-year-old from Australia, is a former No. 1-ranked player in the world, and he already has two PGA TOUR victories in 2018. He won at Torrey Pines in January, then captured the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this month. He has made the cut in all nine of his stroke-play starts this season, and he added a second-place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Day is second in the season-long FedExCup standings, behind leader Justin Thomas. This will be Day’s fourth appearance at the Travelers Championship.
Ten of Day’s 12 PGA TOUR wins have come since the start of the 2015 season. He won five times in 2015, including twice in the FedExCup playoffs and at the PGA Championship for his first major championship. His winning total of 20-under-par at Whistling Straits set a major championship record for lowest score in relation to par. Three more PGA TOUR victories followed in 2016.
Day joins a player field that includes Thomas, defending champion Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Paul Casey, Patrick Reed, Charley Hoffman, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau. Tickets are available for the 2018 Travelers Championship, which will be held June 18-24 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
