Mahan, Appleby, Henry, DiMarco, Gainey and Daly Commit
TOURNAMENT UNVEILS ENHANCED WEBSITE AND TICKET DISCOUNT OFFER FOR 2011
Hartford, Conn., April 25, 2011 – Travelers Championship officials today announced six additional commitments to this year’s tournament including Hunter Mahan, Stuart Appleby, J.J. Henry, Chris DiMarco, Tommy Gainey and John Daly. In addition to the player commitments, the tournament is announcing the launch of its newly enhanced interactive website.
“We are pleased to welcome back these players to our field for 2011,” said Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Our fans have established a great following for these players and we are excited to welcome them back to Connecticut. In addition, we are thrilled to unveil a new enhanced website to our fans, sponsors, charities and volunteers. The website will allow our fans to interact with us through news stories, blogs, social media, galleries and more.”
2007 winner Hunter Mahan is currently 20th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Coming off a strong 2010 campaign where he recorded two PGA TOUR victories, Hunter has already had five top 10 finishes this season. His best finish so far is a second place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Mahan will be making his 10th appearance to the Travelers Championship this summer and is currently the top all-time money winner at the tournament with more than $2.2 million in earnings.
Nine-time PGA TOUR winner Stuart Appleby will be making his sixth appearance at Cromwell, Conn. this summer. In 2010, he made a career-high 31 starts on the PGA TOUR and earned a victory at The Greenbrier Classic last August. Appleby recorded nine birdies and one eagle in his final round to shoot a 59 and win by one stroke.
2006 winner and Connecticut native J.J. Henry has made 11 straight cuts in 2011, including six top 25 finishes and one top 10. This year’s tournament will mark Henry’s 13th consecutive appearance at the Travelers Championship.
Three-time PGA TOUR winner Chris DiMarco will be making his 11th appearance at the Travelers Championship. This year he owns three top 25 finishes, including a T11 at the Puerto Rice Open presented by seepuertorico.com. DiMarco’s best finish at the Travelers Championship was a tie for third in 2001.
Tommy Gainey, best known for wearing two golf gloves and his appearance on Golf Channel’s “The Big Break,” has three top 10 finishes in 2011. Gainey’s best finish came at The Heritage on Sunday where he shot a final round 68 to finish third and just one shot out of a playoff. This summer will be his third trip to TPC River Highlands.
Five-time PGA TOUR winner and two-time major champion John Daly will be his making his 11th trip to TPC River Highlands this summer. Daly is making back-to-back visits to Cromwell, after making his first appearance since 2002 last year.
These six players join a rapidly growing player field that already includes Bubba Watson, Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh, Anthony Kim, Padraig Harrington, Zach Johnson, Justin Leonard, Lucas Glover, and Jhonattan Vegas. The Travelers Championship is Connecticut’s only professional sporting event and will be held June 20 – 26, 2011, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
In addition, the tournament unveiled its newly enhanced website today at www.TravelersChampionship.com. Some of the features include a homepage story slider, tournament blog, multimedia galleries, countdown clock, social media widgets and an interactive toolbar that allows fans to add comments to stories, blogs and posts.
In conjunction with this announcement the tournament is offering a unique ticket package for the next 11 days giving fans an $11 savings off advanced ticket pricing for two Any One Day tickets and one Lot B parking pass. This special ticket package will cost only $55 until May 5, 2011.
