FINAL ROUND RECAP
CROMWELL, CONN., June 28, 2015 – Championship Sunday at the Travelers Championship certainly didn’t lack for drama.
Bubba Watson was in control for most of the day, hanging on to a lead that was as much as three strokes late in the final round. Worthy competitors like Graham DeLaet, Brian Harman and Carl Pettersson all stayed in the hunt, and Paul Casey, who shot five-under in his final round, tied Watson at 16-under after 72 holes of golf to force a playoff.
Both competitors scored par on the first playoff hole on No. 18 to force a second playoff hole. Watson blasted his tee shot down the No. 18 fairway, hit a gorgeous approach shot, and sunk a 12-foot birdie to best Casey and earn his second career Travelers Championship victory (he won his first PGA TOUR victory at TPC River Highlands in 2010).
Harman finished third (15-under), DeLaet finished fourth (14-under), and Pettersson (13-under) rounded out the top-five. This year’s Travelers Championship held even more importance, as the tournament is part of the Open Qualifying Series. Because of their strong finishes, Harman, DeLaet, Pettersson, and Luke Donald (11-under, finished tied for seventh) qualified for the 144th Open Championship at St. Andrews.
