DAY 5 OF THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP
It was a sunshine and fan-filled day Friday on the first official day of summer and the second round of competition at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Players teed off in groups of three on holes one and ten throughout the day. Bubba Watson took the lead, finishing out the day strong at three under. Patrick Reed and Padraig Harrington both finished the day close behind Watson at eight under and Tag Ridings at five under.
Watson enjoys the course because of its generous fairways, the fans and the fact it is playable from the rough, unlike last week’s experience at the U.S. Open, he said.
“There are about two tee shots on the whole golf course that really are tough for me, but other than that the golf course sets up well for me,” Watson said.
As part of Free For Friday, spectators received free admission after 12 p.m. care of Fox CT and the Hartford Courant. Fans came out in the thousands to watch their favorite players throughout the course all day long.
Ending the evening on a high note, festive fans gathered around as singer Edwin McCain took the stage at the SUBWAY Fan Zone for the Powerstation Events Concert Series.
