ABRAHAM ANCER, MAX HOMA, CAMERON SMITH COMMIT TO 2021 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP
HARTFORD, Conn., May 26, 2021 – The Travelers Championship today announced that Abraham Ancer, Max Homa and Cameron Smith have committed to play in the 2021 tournament. This trio of rising stars has combined for five PGA TOUR victories, including two this season.
“It’s been great to see Abraham, Max and Cameron establish themselves on the PGA TOUR with solid finishes and victories,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “They are wonderful additions to our player field, which keeps getting better.”
Abraham Ancer has three consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR, including a tie for eighth at the PGA Championship, his best finish in a major. Ancer was also second at the Wells Fargo Championship and fifth at the Valspar Championship. His current world ranking of No. 19 is a career best, and he played in the Presidents Cup for the first time in 2019. Ancer was born in Texas and grew up in Mexico. He played his college golf at the University of Oklahoma. This will be his fifth start at the Travelers Championship; he tied for eighth at TPC River Highlands in 2019.
Max Homa won for the second time in his PGA TOUR career earlier this season at The Genesis Invitational. He has added three more top-10 finishes this season, including a T6 at the Valspar Championship and a T7 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Homa’s first TOUR victory came at the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship. He has played in the Travelers Championship three times (2015, 2019, 2020) and is No. 42 in this week’s Official World Golf Ranking. Homa won the individual title at the NCAA Championships in 2013, when he was a senior at the University of California and was named a first-team All-American.
Cameron Smith is a 27-year-old from Australia who has three career wins on the PGA TOUR, including one this year in the team event in New Orleans, where he partnered with Marc Leishman; he and Jonas Blixt also won the same team event in 2017. Smith’s other TOUR victory came at the 2020 Sony Open. This will be the fifth appearance in the Travelers Championship for Smith, who tied for second at the 2020 Masters and is No. 26 in the current Official World Golf Ranking. He also won consecutive Australian PGA Championships in 2017 and 2018, and played in the Presidents Cup in 2019.
“All three of these players have been to our tournament before, and we appreciate them adding the Travelers Championship to their schedules,” said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers. “Our fans enjoy watching the best young players in golf, and this year’s tournament will feature many of them, including Abraham, Max and Cameron.”
Ancer, Homa and Smith join Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka, Paul Casey, Marc Leishman, Justin Rose, Bubba Watson and defending champion Dustin Johnson in the field for the 2021 Travelers Championship, which will be held June 21-27 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
