2022 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP GENERATES MORE THAN $2.5 MILLION FOR CHARITY

HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 13, 2022 – The Travelers Championship today announced that the 2022 tournament generated more than $2.5 million for over 140 local charities, a group of organizations ranging from food banks to animal shelters and including this year’s primary beneficiary, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

Representatives from participating nonprofits attended the tournament’s annual Charity Celebration, which took place at TPC River Highlands. Speakers during the event included Nathan Grube, Travelers Championship Tournament Director; Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers; and Marissa Weidner, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at Webster Bank, which sponsors the tournament’s Birdies for Charity program. As a dedicated partner of the tournament and Birdies for Charity, Renee DiNino, on-air personality for The River 105.9 and Director of Community Affairs & Programming at iHeartMedia, was the emcee of the event and helped to highlight 10 benefitting organization’s missions throughout the morning.

“Celebrating with the charities that benefit from the tournament is always heartwarming” Grube said. “Helping people in our community continues to be the mission of the Travelers Championship, and thanks to a dedicated title sponsor, our team of tournament staff, Travelers employees, volunteers, and the support we get from our amazing fans and incredible sponsors, we were able to accomplish what we set out to do.”

The Travelers Championship donates 100% of its net proceeds to charity. Since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007, the tournament has generated over $25 million for more than 800 nonprofits.

“Delivering financial support and providing charities with a major platform to share their message is what makes the Travelers Championship so special,” Bessette said. “Our involvement with the tournament is another way for Travelers to support our community and help those who rely on the services these charities provide. We pledge to work hard to make the tournament better every year, because we know a successful event has a direct effect on the organizations that benefit.”

Launched in 2004, Birdies for Charity awards a 15% bonus on every dollar raised, with administrative costs and online fees covered by the tournament. This year, the program saw a 10.5% increase in the amount of money generated for charity.

“Sponsoring the Birdies program allows Webster to build on our partnership with the Travelers Championship and be even more engaged in Connecticut’s biggest sporting event,” Weidner said. “But more importantly, we can see the difference that the Birdies program makes for the event’s charitable beneficiaries, supporting their wonderful programming and positive impacts in the communities we serve.”

In a recorded message shown during the Charity Celebration, 2022 Travelers Championship winner Xander Schauffele said, “The Connecticut fans really came out and supported me during the event, which is obviously a big reason why we all love playing. What’s more important is the tournament makes a big impact on the community, and that really makes me proud. Congratulations on generating more than $2.5 million for more than 140 charities.”

Preparations have already begun for the 2023 Travelers Championship, which will take place June 19-25 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. For more information, visit TravelersChampionship.com.
