Scottie Scheffler
Defending Champion
2024 Recap
Scottie Scheffler tightened his grip on the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, winning the 2024 Travelers Championship in a dramatic one-hole playoff over Tom Kim. The final Signature Event of the PGA TOUR season – and the only TOUR tournament in the Northeast – featured 70 of the best players in the world competing all four days. Scheffler broke away from a loaded leaderboard by making three straight birdies on the back nine during the final round, on Nos. 13-15. That put him in the lead over Kim, his close friend and Dallas neighbor. But Kim rolled in a birdie putt on the 18th hole, after nearly hitting the flagstick on his approach. The putt forced a playoff and sent the two players back to the 18th tee. Scheffler found the fairway with his drive on the extra hole and knocked his approach shot 10 feet from the pin, while Kim’s second shot plugged in a greenside bunker. Scheffler’s two-putt par was enough for his first Travelers Championship victory in his fifth start at TPC River Highlands. It was also his sixth PGA TOUR win of the year, which is more than any player at that point of the season since 1962, when Arnold Palmer won six times before July. It was also the 12th TOUR victory of Scheffler’s career. With rounds of 65-64-64-65, Scheffler’s total of 22-under-par was one off the tournament scoring record. Tom Hoge and Sungjae Im tied for third at 20-under, with Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas and Akshay Bhatia in a four-way tie for fifth at 18-under.
