HARTFORD, Conn., May 12, 2017 – The Travelers Championship today announced that the rock band Gin Blossoms and country singer Drake White and The Big Fire will headline the Liberty Bank Concert Series at this year’s tournament. Drake White will perform Thursday night and the Gin Blossoms will take the stage Saturday night. Both concerts are expected to begin at approximately 7 p.m. — after the last golfer finishes play for the day — in the MetroHartford Alliance Fan Zone. Fans can attend the Liberty Bank Concert Series by purchasing an Any One Day Ticket, which provides access to the tournament and all of that day’s festivities.
“Liberty Bank is excited to be the presenting sponsor of this year’s Concert Series for the first time. The Travelers Championship and its concerts offer a unique opportunity for local families and avid golf fans to see some of the world’s finest athletes and musicians right here in our home state,” said Chandler J. Howard, President and CEO of Liberty Bank. “Each year, we look forward to being a part of Connecticut’s largest sporting event and we’re honored to support it again this year in a whole new way.”
The Gin Blossoms, a band that formed in the late 1980s in Tempe, Arizona, blends a variety of classic rock with their own high-energy pop style. Behind such hits as “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You” and “Til I Hear It from You,” the Gin Blossoms have sold more than 10 million records and were nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for “As Long As It Matters,” a single from the album “Congratulations…I’m Sorry.” The band’s 1992 album, “New Miserable Experience,” has sold more than 5 million records and placed five singles on assorted Billboard charts.
Drake White, backed by his band The Big Fire, is touring in support of his debut album, “Spark,” which quickly reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Country Albums chart. White’s second single from that album, “Livin’ the Dream,” became a top-15 hit and his follow-up single, “Makin’ Me Look Good Again,” is also receiving critical praise. He was recently named an “Artist of Tomorrow” by CBS.com, and Entertainment Weekly included him on its list of New Artists Who Will Rule 2017. White, an Alabama native and Auburn University graduate, has toured with Willie Nelson, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Eric Church and Toby Keith, among others.
“We’d like to thank Liberty Bank for sponsoring what’s become such an integral part of tournament week, and for the supporting sponsors in iHeart Radio, Mohegan Sun, Powerstation Events and Stanley Black & Decker,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “With Gin Blossoms and Drake White, we’ll be offering our fans two great acts who will provide us with two amazing nights of music.”
The Travelers Championship will take place June 19–25 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Tickets are on sale now at www.TravelersChampionship.com. This year’s field includes Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Bubba Watson, Justin Thomas, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk and defending champion Russell Knox.
