Requirements

  • Must volunteer for at least 3 full days of volunteering. With health and safety as the top priority, it is recommended to have the same volunteers work consistently throughout the week.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by the tournament. Specific age requirements listed within each committee below.

Committees

The tournament is excited to welcome back more volunteers on-site this year! 2021 will be another unique year where some committees may not be needed, while other may operate at a full or reduced capacity.

The committees listed below represent our current committee needs, with roles continuing to be defined. We ask for your flexibility and understanding if the details surrounding the volunteer program adapt to the evolving landscape.

Admissions

Previously the Gates Committee – If you are outgoing and love to meet people, then this is the committee for you! Volunteers on this committee will be stationed at one of entrances to the golf course to greet patrons, scan tickets and assist with the credential trailer operations if needed. Admissions volunteers are responsible for ensuring all guests are admitted onto tournament grounds with the correct credentials and testing. Volunteers on this committee must be comfortable reminding guests upon entry to “mask up” at all times and will act as a safety ambassador for the tournament. Excellent customer service skills are required. This position will work outside all day and volunteers must be prepared for all weather conditions.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 18

Ambassadors - FULL

Volunteers on this committee will be on-course greeters and ambassadors of the tournament. Ambassadors will be placed throughout high traffic areas on course to interact with guests by answering their questions or concerns. Ambassadors must be knowledgeable of the course as guests will ask for assistance with directions. Experience with excellent customer service, and a professional and friendly attitude are a must. This position will work outside all day and volunteers must be prepared for all weather conditions.

Courtyards

Courtyards are this year’s hospitality venues. Volunteers on this committee must be excellent with customer service skills as they may be a greeter to welcome guests or a marshal to keep the venues quiet for golfers. Volunteers may also assist ensuring guests have the right credentials or monitor and manage the number of guests in each venue. Courtyards may allow for volunteers to watch some golf while being in a fun and energetic environment. As a courtyard volunteer you should expect to be on your feet most of the day. Volunteers are in high demand on the weekend as the volume of fans increases with the final rounds of competition.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 21

Distribution - FULL

During tournament week, the primary focus of the distribution volunteers will be on-course distribution of water, ice and other supplies for the players, caddies, media, and volunteers. In addition, the distribution committee will be asked to assist with other duties on the course as needed. Requirements for this committee are the ability to lift 35 lbs. and to have a desire to work hard and have fun. It is your chance to get outside and get your hands dirty for a good cause. This position will work outside all day and volunteers must be prepared for all weather conditions.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 18

Hole Marshals

With the re-introduction of limited fans, marshals will be assigned to each of the 18 holes on the golf course and are responsible for crowd management. Be right in on the action while watching for errant shots, keeping the crowds moving smoothly with play, and signaling fans for quiet as players address the ball. All marshals must be comfortable reminding fans to “mask up” at the rope lines and understand this is an important part of their tournament week responsibilities. This position will work outside all day and volunteers must be prepared for all weather conditions.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 18 (16-17 must be accompanied with an adult)

Mobile Marshals

Previously “Mobile Marshals” – Safety Rovers are responsible for adding another level of marshal assistance by making sure crowds run smoothly with play, while providing friendly safety reminders. Volunteers are required to be able to walk 18 holes, as rovers move along with marquee groups throughout play. Volunteers will promote safety and assist with gallery management to keep fans quiet outside the ropes. All members of this committee must lead by example and be comfortable promoting all safety policies. This position works outside all day and must be prepared for all weather conditions. As a rover you must be comfortable wearing a mask at all times while walking the duration of your shift.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 18

ShotLink - Location Based Operators - FULL

This committee consists of laser operators and tablet operators. These are both an important function of the ShotLink scoring system as it enables real-time distance data and statistics to be delivered to scoreboards, TV broadcast, internet and mobile device applications. Location Based Operators require a basic knowledge of golf, as well as a commitment to timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail. Volunteers will work outside all day and must be prepared for all weather conditions.

  1. Laser operators are responsible for using a laser rangefinder to track the landing position of shots on and around the fairway.
  2. Tablet operators are responsible for using a handheld tablet device to plot the ending positions of shots.’

Training: Required to complete a 1-hour online training in advanced of tournament week and an on-course training on Wednesday, June 23.

Minimum Age: 18 years old

ShotLink - Spotters - FULL

The spotter position assists the fairway tablet operators with locating ball positions and identifying situations where the players’ shot may be obstructed. This position requires a basic knowledge of golf, as well as commitment to timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail. Spotters are expected to be mobile and walk as necessary to locate shots in their designated area.

  • Training: The ShotLink staff will provide orientation for this role on-site in conjunction with the committee chair.
  • Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years old

 

Minimum Age for Volunteers: 16

Standard Bearers - FULL

Volunteers for this position will follow a group of golfers during their round of play, inside the ropes. Your primary responsibility will be to show the gallery who is playing in the group and to display their scores by carrying a standard sign presenting the information. A basic understanding of golf scoring and golf etiquette is required, although much of it can be learned during training and from the walking scorer that will accompany you. Volunteers must be comfortable wearing a mask at all times while having the ability to walk 18 holes carrying a 5-pound sign in various weather conditions.

Minimum Age for Volunteers: 14

Volunteer Villa - FULL

Home base for this committee is the Volunteer Villa sponsored by Hartford HealthCare. Help create a memorable and overall excellent volunteer experience for fellow volunteers! Members of this committee will welcome other volunteers to the tournament, manage volunteer check-in, answer volunteer questions, provide direction and assist in keeping the venue’s appearance in a neat order. Flexibility, friendliness and a can-do attitude are the only prerequisites for this committee.

  • Minimum Age for Volunteers: 16
