DAY THREE AT THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Day 3 at TC

It was an event-filled third day at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. The Northstar Nine in the Farmington Bank Kids Zone was surrounded by fans during the inaugural Northstar Wealth Partners Celebrity Mini Golf Tournament and the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am took place throughout the day.

The mini golf tournament, led by Renee DeNino as MC, consisted of threesomes made up of celebrities, national and local media, and special guests. Celebrities included actor Alec Baldwin, representing the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp; WWE legends Sgt. Slaughter and Bob Backlund; 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist and current NBC commentator Tim Daggett; young actor C.J. Adams from the Disney film The Odd Life of Timothy Green; UConn Women’s Head Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma; and UConn Women’s Associate Head Coach Chris Dailey. Teams competed in two waves for the chance to win $5,000 to be donated from Travelers to the charity of their choice ($2,500 donated to the winner of each shotgun). Military Honorary Co-Chairs of the Travelers Championship Linda Botek, Kelley McDowell and Mark Lear won round one and chose the Susan G. Komen Foundation as recipients of the donation. Winners Brad Drazen, Monica Buchanan, and Amy Parmenter, NBC Connecticut broadcast journalists chose the Urban League of Greater Hartford as the charity to receive the round two donation.

Thousands of spectators came out to watch the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am, which featured stars Chris Berman, Geno Auriemma, Sgt. Slaughter, Tim Wakefield, Doug Flutie and others. Professional golfers Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Justin Rose, Bubba Watson and others also competed.  In the morning, the team of Lee Westwood, Greg Toczydlowski, Bobby Beane and Jon Duncan took home the trophy.  Meanwhile in the afternoon, the team of Kevin Stadler, John Fuller, Michael Pill and Jim Waldron were the winners.

18 of the 82 players who participated in Tuesday’s Umbrella at 15 ½ Challenge landed a ball on The Umbrella at 15 ½.  Winner Ben Kohles, who recorded closest shot to the pin at 5 inches, will donate the $10,000 prize from Travelers to the Tucker Anderson 4 Life Foundation (TA4Life).

The competition rounds of the Travelers Championship will be played June 20 – 23, and will be broadcast live on Golf Channel from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday and Friday and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday and Sunday; and on CBS at 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday and Sunday.
