TWO PGA TOUR “BEST OF” AWARDS

TWO PGA TOUR “BEST OF” AWARDS

2010 TOURNAMENT RECEIVES AWARDS FOR “BEST TITLE SPONSOR INTEGRATION” AND “MOST FAN-FRIENDLY EVENT”

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – The Travelers Championship (Cromwell, CT) was honored with two awards from the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Advisory Council (TAC) Meetings this week.

The Travelers Championship earned the “Best Title Sponsor Integration,” and “Most Fan-Friendly Event” award for 2010.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to acknowledge and congratulate the outstanding job and special recognition the Travelers Championship has received for its efforts,” said PGA TOUR EVP and Chief of Operations Andy Pazder. “The tournament committee should be extremely proud for being acknowledged as the best among its peers on TOUR.”

Examples of title sponsor integration in 2010 included a Travelers Championship airport wall mural that moved while passengers walked past, the donation of $10,000 to a player’s charity for the closest to pin during the practice round and the live and complete webcast of every competitor playing the same two, designated holes each day. In addition, approximately 1,000 Travelers employees volunteered their time during tournament week.

The “Most Fan-Friendly Event” award came from the Travelers Championship’s commitment to entertainment beyond the competition. In 2010, this included a 5K race, a university tent utilized by local alumni branches, a women’s day, a junior pro-am, military tent and concert series. Travelers also sponsored the SUBWAY Fan Zone, which included the Farmington Bank Kid Zone, wine tasting, a Travelers tent with an emphasis on healthy menu items, as well as video games for kids.

“These two awards are a testament to how seriously Travelers takes its investment with the PGA TOUR,” said Nathan Grube, Travelers Championship tournament director. “We’ve tried to overdeliver on what our fans and community can expect each year, creating a sense of anticipation for the Travelers Championship. And our title sponsor’s involvement has had a tremendous impact on the success of the event, evidenced in part by the more than 1,000 Travelers’ employees that serve as volunteers during tournament week.”

The 2011 Travelers Championship, captured in 2010 by Bubba Watson, will be held June 23-26 at TPC River Highlands.
