TOURNAMENT ADDS FIVE MORE TOP PLAYERS TO THE FIELD
LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN, ROBERT KARLSSON, KYLE STANLEY, CHRIS DIMARCO AND JERRY KELLY COMMIT TO THE 2012 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP
HARTFORD, Conn., June 5, 2012 – The Travelers Championship has secured five strong player commitments, as Louis Oosthuizen, Robert Karlsson, Kyle Stanley, Chris DiMarco and Jerry Kelly will compete at TPC River Highlands from June 18 to 24.
“Our field is continuing to grow and fill out with some of the top players in the game,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “With our tournament just a few weeks away, we are very excited with the level of talent that will soon be coming to TPC River Highlands.”
2010 British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen will be making his first appearance at TPC River Highlands. The South African native has saved his best golf for majors, as he tied for second at this year’s Masters Tournament and earned a T9 at the 2011 U.S. Open. In 10 events this year, he has two top-10 and five top-25 finishes. He is currently ranked No. 15 in the Official World Golf Rankings and No. 29 in the FedExCup Rankings.
Sweden-born Robert Karlsson is making his first appearance at the Travelers Championship. Playing primarily on the European Tour throughout his career, Karlsson is in the top 20 in all-time victories with 11. Last year was his first official season on the PGA TOUR, and he finished with three top-10 and six top-25 finishes, with his best finish being a tie for fourth at the PGA Championship. This season he has two top-25 finishes and is currently No. 49 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Kyle Stanley, who turned professional at the Travelers Championship in 2009, will be making his third appearance at TPC River Highlands. The 2009 Ben Hogan Award winner is having a breakout season on the PGA TOUR in 2012, with five top-25 finishes through 15 events. He fell in a playoff at the Farmers Insurance Open back in January, but then came back the next week to earn his first career PGA TOUR victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He is currently No. 15 in the FedExCup Rankings and No. 56 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Chris DiMarco will be making his 13th appearance to the Travelers Championship this month. DiMarco has three career PGA TOUR victories and has represented the United States on two Presidents Cup teams (2003 and 2005) and two Ryder Cup teams (2004 and 2006). His best finish at TPC River Highlands was a tie for third in 2001.
University of Hartford alum Jerry Kelly has three career victories on the PGA TOUR and will be making his 15th appearance to TPC River Highlands. He has three-top 25 finishes this season, with his best finish being a tie for 18th at the Valero Texas Open.
These five players join an impressive field that already includes defending champion Fredrik Jacobson, Masters champion Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley, Matt Kuchar, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Charl Schwartzel, Zach Johnson, Patrick Cantlay and many others. The Travelers Championship will be held June 18 to 24 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
