TOMMY FLEETWOOD AND PATRICK CANTLAY COMMIT TO 2019 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

HARTFORD, Conn., May 6, 2019 – The Travelers Championship today announced that Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay, two players currently in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking, have committed to play in this year’s tournament. It will mark Fleetwood’s first appearance at TPC River Highlands and Cantlay’s fifth.

“Adding two more top-20 players further strengthens and adds to the competitiveness of our player field,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Tommy and Patrick have been playing well and there’s a good chance we’ll see them in the mix on Sunday of tournament week at TPC River Highlands.”

Tommy Fleetwood is a 28-year-old from England who owns four victories on the European Tour, most recently the 2018 Abu Dhabi Championship. Fleetwood became a PGA TOUR member in 2018, when he finished second at the U.S. Open, his best finish in a major championship. Fleetwood also had a runner-up finish at the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship in 2017. In 10 TOUR starts this season Fleetwood has four top-10 finishes, including a tie for second in New Orleans and a tie for third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He went 4-1 at the 2018 Ryder Cup, and is ranked No. 16 in the world.

Patrick Cantlay won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in the 2017-18 season. Cantlay nearly defended his title earlier this season, finishing second for his best finish in 12 2018-19 TOUR starts. During his Travelers Championship debut in 2011, Cantlay shot a second-round 60, the lowest score by an amateur in a PGA TOUR event. He tied for 15th at TPC River Highlands last year, his best finish in four tournament starts. The 27-year-old is currently ranked No. 17 in the world. In 2011, Cantlay was named the winner of the Fred Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award while playing for UCLA.

Fleetwood and Cantlay join several other players giving early commitments to the 2019 Travelers Championship. They include Brooks Koepka (No. 3), Justin Thomas (No. 5), Francesco Molinari (No. 7), Bryson DeChambeau (No. 8), Paul Casey (No. 12), Tony Finau (No. 14), Jason Day (No. 15), defending champion Bubba Watson (No. 18), Patrick Reed (No. 19) and 2012 Travelers Championship winner Marc Leishman (No. 22).

The 2019 Travelers Championship will be held June 17-23 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. For tickets and more information on this year’s tournament, visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.
