Round 2 Recap

Round 2 Recap

HARTFORD, Conn., June 23, 2017 – Thousands of fans, action-packed golf and a crowded leaderboard – Friday at the Travelers Championship was an experience.

After an electrifying first round, Jordan Spieth was quieter in round two, but still finished with a 1-under-par 69 on the day to retain sole possession of first place at 8-under-par. There were plenty of competitors jockeying for position near the lead all afternoon. Patrick Reed – known for his Ryder Cup exploits – shot a 4-under-par 66 to reach 7-under for the tournament, one stroke behind.

Reed is joined in second place by Troy Merritt, who has been steady all tournament and whose 2-under-par 68 also pulled him to 7-under-par for the tournament. Wesley Bryan, Daniel Summerhays, Boo Weekley and Monday Qualifier Chase Seiffert are all tied for fourth place at 6-under-par.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the third round of competition will take place with a delayed start. Due to expected overnight thunderstorms, gates will open at 9 a.m. and play will begin at 10:45 a.m. The final group of Spieth, Reed and Merritt will start their rounds at 1:05 p.m. The second Liberty Bank Concert Series event will take place Saturday evening in the Fan Zone, with a performance by the Gin Blossoms.

Since the Travelers Championship would not be possible without the help of so many willing volunteers, there will also be a Volunteer Appreciation Party in the Pro-Am Tent sponsored by Hartford HealthCare.
