PATRICK CANTLAY COMMITS TO 2023 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

PATRICK CANTLAY COMMITS TO 2023 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 28, 2023 – Patrick Cantlay, who set a PGA TOUR scoring record at the Travelers Championship and is currently No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking, has committed to play at TPC River Highlands in 2023. It will be the ninth tournament appearance for Cantlay, who is an eight-time PGA TOUR winner.

“Having played in our tournament several times, Patrick is always an exciting addition to the field,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “He seems to be in contention every time he plays and will fit in perfectly with the other elite golfers who have already committed.”

This year’s Travelers Championship will feature many of the game’s best and most popular players competing for a tournament-record purse of $20 million. With Cantlay’s commitment, the field includes four players ranked among the world’s top 10: He joins Scottie Scheffler (No. 2), Rory McIlroy (No. 3) and defending champion Xander Schauffele (No. 6).

Cantlay’s most notable Travelers Championship performance came in 2011, when as a 19-year-old he shot a 10-under-par 60 in the second round. It remains the lowest single-round score by an amateur in PGA TOUR history. Cantlay has finished T15 or better in each of his past five starts at TPC River Highlands.

Cantlay’s best PGA TOUR season was 2021, when he was named Player of the Year and won the FedExCup points title. His most recent TOUR victory came at last year’s BMW Championship, and he has a pair of top-three finishes this season: He tied for second at the Shriners Children’s Open and was third at the Genesis Invitational.

“We’ve known Patrick really well ever since giving him a sponsor’s exemption when he was a student at UCLA, and he’s turned into one of the best golfers in the world,” said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers. “His continued support of the Travelers Championship and what we stand for as a community partner is greatly appreciated.”

The 2023 Travelers Championship will be held June 19-25 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
