INAUGURAL LEGO® CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES MORE THAN $50,000admin
CROMWELL, Conn., July 31, 2012 – The Travelers Championship and LEGO® Systems partnered together yesterday at TPC River Highlands to host a unique charity golf tournament to benefit Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. In unison with the golf outing, more than 30 families had an opportunity to spend the afternoon with LEGO master builders at LEGO Play Well Day.
The golf tournament was a shamble format and the Low Gross winners shot a 9-under par 61, which included Skip Collins, Ryan Donohue, David Mascola and T.J. Selig. The Low Net winners of Joseph Bailey, Milton Walsh, Trevor Parris and Edgar Pascua fired a 20-under 50 to win by one shot. Each of the winners received TPC River Highlands gift certificates and a special trophy, which were made out of LEGO bricks.
While the adults were playing golf, children from Connecticut Children’s Medical Center were given the opportunity to take part in LEGO Play Well Day. Participants were able to explore their inner builder by spending the afternoon using their imaginations to build with thousands of LEGO bricks. The event included challenge build offs, a team LEGO tower build and a team contest to see who could construct the strongest bridge out of LEGO bricks.
Following golf and LEGO Play Well Day, both golfers and families were invited to a dinner and awards reception. The Master Builder Sponsor for the event was Fisher Development, INC. Big Brick Sponsors included Cartoon Network, DHL Global Forwarding, Disney Media Sales and Marketing Werks, Enfield Builders, Flashpoint, LIFE Marketing & Events, Marketing Works and Nickelodeon. Brick Sponsors were Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Creatacor.
The LEGO Charity Golf Tournament was a first-year event hosted by the Travelers Championship and LEGO Systems. More than $50,000 was generated from the event and all of the proceeds will support Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
The 2013 Travelers Championship will be held June 17-23 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. For more information on the tournament, charities and special events, please visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.
