CROMWELL, Conn., June 20, 2011– The Travelers Championship hosted the Aetna Tournament Players Pro-Am, in which tournament sponsors had an opportunity to tee it up at TPC River Highlands alongside PGA TOUR professionals. Both veterans and promising young golfers took part in the Pro-Am, including the likes of Tommy Gainey, David Hearn, Matt Bettencourt, Jim Renner and Jay Williamson.
28 PGA TOUR Professionals competed with the amateurs and three groups finished tied at 15-under par in a best-ball format. After matching cards, the first place team was lead by PGA TOUR professional Nate Smith and included Jonathan Vassil, George Connor, Craig Hoekenga and Christopher Koehm. In second place, PGA TOUR professional William McGirt played alongside Phil Barbaro, Jeff Matchett, John Gallagher and James O’Mera. The third place team was PGA TOUR professional David Hearn who played with Michael Sinacori, Jim Urbano, John Collins and Todd Bateson.
Before the round of golf, amateurs had an opportunity to test out new equipment on the practice facility, as well as watch a special clinic hosted by Morgan Hoffmann. Hoffmann who attended Oklahoma State University will be turning pro this week in Cromwell, Conn. Following the Pro-Am, all guests were invited to the Pro-Am Celebration at the Pro-Am Tent near the practice facility.
