DAY 2 RECAP
CROMWELL, Conn., June 18, 2014 – Tuesday was an event-filled day from start to finish. Farmington Bank Family Day offered several free golf activities took place, including a clinic with PGA TOUR Professionals Freddie Jacobson and Eric Compton. Junior golfers also participated in the PGA TOUR Junior Player Experience presented by CL&P and Yankee Gas by participating in a rotation of activities mimicking life on the TOUR. They were given tours of the equipment vans, took part in a golf clinic and played holes on the First Tee Learning Links alongside TOUR professionals.
Operation Shower presented by ConnectiCare, a special baby shower for 40 expectant military wives, was held in the morning. “Extra” correspondent and first-time mom Hilaria Thomas Baldwin helped honor the mothers, each of the which was showered with gifts from a variety of sponsors including Travelers, Dorel, “Extra” and Carousel Designs.
A press conference took place featuring Patrick Rodgers, Cameron Wilson, Oliver Goss and Bobby Wyatt, the four golfers whom received sponsor exemptions from the tournament. The golfers answered questions from the media, and afterward each participated in a Google Hangout moderated by Amanda Balionis from the PGA TOUR.
Throughout the day, several PGA TOUR professionals competed in a closest-to-the-pin contest at the Umbrella at 15 ½. Richard Lee received $10,000 to the charity of his choice. Caddies also had the chance to take a shot at the red umbrella for the chance to win prizes.
At the course today, a Veterans Hiring and Resource Job Fair presented by Kaman was held, in which veterans were invited to attend a free job fair where they had the opportunity to interact with employers looking to hire from a quality group of career seekers.
Also held today was the Web.com Small Business Summit presented byWeb.com Small Business Summit presented by Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development The event, which was free to small business owners, included an instructional presentation and discussed some of the challenges facing entrepreneurs. Speakers from SCORE, Travelers, the Connecticut Department of Economic Development and Web.com outlined resources available to the small business owners in attendance that could help them thrive.
Some of tomorrow’s events include the Dennis and Callahan Show; the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am; the Military Caddy Program, which takes place on hole 17 during the Celebrity Pro-Am and allows service members to caddy for PGA TOUR professionals; the FML, CPAs Celebrity Mini Golf Tournament, featuring actress Bridget Moynahan; the GreatBlue, PGA TOUR Wives and Make-A-Wish Mini Golf Tournament; the Mike Francesa Show; and the Wounded Warrior threesome presented by Saint Francis Care.
