Patrick Cantlay Making Professional Debut at the Travelers Championship
Patrick Cantlay announced today that he will make his debut as a professional at the 2012 Travelers Championship. He was previously ranked as the world’s top-ranked amateur.
The sophomore standout from UCLA already has an impressive array of PGA TOUR starts. Last year, he burst onto the scene with a 10-under par 60 in the second round of the 2011 Travelers Championship, the lowest score ever recorded by an amateur in a PGA TOUR event. To commemorate his remarkable achievement, the World Golf Hall of Fame has displayed his scorecard.
“I had a really good time at UCLA for my two years and I learned a lot and developed a lot,” said Cantlay. “I feel like it’s time for me to play as a pro.”
Cantlay leaves amateur golf with an array of accomplishments. He has played in three majors, finishing as the low amateur in the 2011 US Open and the 2012 Masters Tournament. In addition, he played on the 2011 Walker Cup Team posting a record of 2-1-1.
He make his official professional debut off the 10th tee at 8:29 a.m. on Thursday June 21, 2012. In his group will be Ryo Ishikawa and John Peterson.
