Remembers Arnold Palmer

HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 27, 2016 – The Travelers Championship joins the golf world in mourning the death and celebrating the life of Arnold Palmer, one of the game’s greatest champions and ambassadors. As a two-time winner in Connecticut, we will be honoring Palmer in 2017 by adding a plaque in his memory at the Travelers Championship Memorial Garden, which is located near the practice facility at TPC River Highlands.

The first professional victory in the U.S. of Palmer’s Hall of Fame career came at the 1956 Insurance City Open, now known as the Travelers Championship. Palmer added a second victory at the tournament in 1960.

“Arnold Palmer did more for golf than probably anyone else who’s ever played,” said Nathan Grube, Executive Director of the Travelers Championship. “The way he played and the flair with which he won earned him millions of fans. But the way he carried himself, how he treated people, and the impact he had on others through his charitable efforts earned him just as many admirers.”
