WOMEN’S DAY FEATURES NELL NEWMAN

NEWMAN’S OWN ORGANICS PRESIDENT HEADLINES EVENTS GEARED SPECIFICALLY FOR WOMEN

HARTFORD, Conn., May 26, 2010 – The Travelers Championship will host its second annual Women’s Day on Thursday, June 24, at TPC River Highlands. The event will feature Nell Newman, Co-Founder and President of Newman’s Own Organics, as its keynote speaker for the networking breakfast, followed by golf clinics, discussions on women’s health, and many other activities throughout the day.

The daughter of actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Nell Newman founded Newman’s Own Organics in 1993 with business partner Peter Meehan. The company began as a division of Newman’s Own and has been an independent company since 2001. The company’s product line features snack food, coffee, tea, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dried fruit and pet food. Nell’s responsibilities are in the areas of product development and marketing.

The sale of Newman’s Own Organics products generates money for the Newman’s Own Foundation to invest in the community. Since 1982 Paul Newman and the Newman’s Own Foundation have donated more than $285 million dollars to educational and charitable organizations worldwide.

Ms. Newman has a personal connection to Connecticut’s only PGA TOUR stop as well, with her late father’s charity, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, being one of the event’s designated charities since 2007. The Ashford, Conn., camp, which serves more than 15,000 serious ill children annually, has received nearly $1 million from the Travelers Championship to date.

“We are extremely excited to have Nell Newman join us for our Women’s Day event in 2010,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “Her entrepreneurial spirit and leadership in founding Newman’s Own Organics is an inspiring story that has deep roots in Connecticut. Her commitment to philanthropy and healthy living aligns nicely with the tournament’s focus, and we are fortunate to have her with us.”

Following the networking breakfast, women can participate in an array of special events. One of the many highlights includes a health and wellness panel presented by Hartford Hospital that will feature three healthcare experts, moderated by Rebecca Stewart, Director of News Service for Hartford Hospital. Drs. Donna Polk, Ellen Dormelas and Christine Greene will focus on essential issues including heart health, stress management and nutrition.

After the breakfast and workshops, everyone will have an opportunity to take part in a pair of golf clinics, one for beginners and the other for more advanced golfers. Both golf events are proudly presented by the ING New England Golf Classic and will feature PGA professional Suzy Whaley. Whaley was recently ranked fifth in the Golf Digest inaugural ranking of America’s Top 50 Women Golf Instructors.

Fans will also be encouraged to visit the Subway Fan Zone throughout Women’s Day as it will feature activities and expo opportunities designed specifically for women throughout the day.

Women’s Day ticket packages are available now at TravelersChampionship.com or by calling the tournament box office at 1-866-840-8821. Tickets start at $35 per person, which includes access to the networking breakfast, an upgraded ticket to the Travelers Championship and a $10 donation to charity.

Proceeds will go to Billings Forge Community Works, a non-profit entity that serves the Frog Hollow neighborhood of Hartford through numerous community and economic development projects including Firebox Restaurant, a farmers market, and studio space and housing at Billings Forge. It’s objective is to reinvigorate the community through jobs, food, arts, and housing.

The Travelers Championship, which is part of the FedExCup, will be held June 21 – 27, 2010, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Some of the PGA TOUR’s most notable players have committed to compete in the event, including Kenny Perry, Stewart Cink, Hunter Mahan, Vijay Singh, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, John Daly and more.
