HUNTER MAHAN WINS WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN

2007 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER HUNTER MAHAN WINS IN SCOTTSDALE

HARTFORD, Conn., February 28, 2010 – Hunter Mahan won the 2010 Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday, giving him his second PGA TOUR title since his win at the 2007 Travelers Championship. Mahan shot a final round 65 to earn a one-shot victory over fellow Oklahoma State University graduate Rickie Fowler.

The 27-year-old Mahan came from four strokes back to win over Fowler. Mahan had an eagle and a pair of birdies in a late four-hole span Sunday to finish at 16-under, 268. He had an outstanding weekend at TPC Scottsdale with two consecutive bogey-free 65s.

Mahan played on the 2008 Ryder Cup team and was a captain’s pick for the 2009 President’s Cup. In addition, he had six top-10s in 2009, including a runner-up finish at the AT&T National.

“It’s just finding a way to win. I just haven’t been able to do it,” Mahan said. “So obviously it feels great to get off the year on my fifth tournament to win. It gives me a lot of confidence in myself that I’m doing the right things in my game, and it feels great, it really does.”

Mahan earned $1.08 million and 500 FedExCup points with the victory. His victory jumped him from a 104th place tie to sole possession of sixth place in the current 2010 FedExCup standings. The win also catapulted Mahan fourteen spots to place him fifth in the 2010 Ryder Cup Standings.

The Travelers Championship is one of Connecticut’s premier annual sporting events and is the PGA TOUR’s only early summer stop in the Northeast, which will be played June 21 – 27, 2010 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
