TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES THE MAHONEYSABOL 5K TO BENEFIT THE ALS CLINIC AT THE HOSPITAL FOR SPECIAL CARE
RACE TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, APRIL 30, AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS
HARTFORD, Conn., March 18, 2016 – The Travelers Championship today announced that its annual 5K race will benefit the ALS Clinic at the Hospital for Special Care (HSC), the tournament’s primary beneficiary for 2016. Sponsored by MahoneySabol, the race will take place Saturday, April 30, at TPC River Highlands.
“In keeping with our goal to raise funds for ALS this year, the Travelers Championship is proud to work with MahoneySabol to support the ALS Clinic at HSC,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “The 5K has been a great tradition that has allowed us to raise additional funds for charity outside of tournament week.”
MahoneySabol provides comprehensive accounting, auditing, tax and business consulting services to a wide range of clients and industries. Founded in 1990, by James Mahoney and Michael Sabol, MahoneySabol’s combination of local firm feel, national firm experience and access to global resources through its independent membership in the BDO Alliance USA, allows it to serve its clients unlike other firms in the New England marketplace.
“We are honored to be part of this important event,” added Jim Mahoney, managing partner of MahoneySabol, who also serves as the chair of HSC’s board. “We have been committed to both HSC and the Travelers Championship over the years so this sponsorship provides us with a unique opportunity to expand and leverage these relationships while increasing our commitment to them and the whole community.”
HSC is one of 33 certified ALS centers in the country and cares for more than 250 Connecticut residents with ALS, a progressive disorder that affects the function of nerves and muscle. HSC is the only facility in Connecticut that is part of the ALS Association’s national network for Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence and is certified by the Muscular Dystrophy Association for ALS care. It also runs one of the largest research and clinical trial programs for ALS in New England.
“We are grateful that both the Travelers Championship and MahoneySabol have selected our ALS Clinic as the beneficiary of the MahoneySabol 5K,” said HSC President and Chief Executive Officer Lynn Ricci. “The commitment of the Travelers Championship, as well as the MahoneySabol team, will have a direct impact on our delivery of care to individuals and families facing ALS. Their support will also enhance our ALS research and clinical trials work and further our mission to become the nation’s first ALS Patient Centered Specialty Practice.”
Registration is now open for the MahoneySabol 5K. All participants, including athletes with disabilities, are welcome to run, walk or donate to benefit the ALS Clinic at HSC. The course route follows the roads that line the fairways and greens of TPC River Highlands. The MahoneySabol 5K at the Travelers Championship will once again feature a Kids Fun Run, a Kids Zone with mini golf and inflatables and a post-race celebration. The post-race celebration will feature complimentary food and drink for all participants, music and awards for the top three runners in each age group.
The MahoneySabol 5K begins with the Kids Fun Run at 10:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race and walk at 11 a.m. All post-race activities will begin at 11:30 a.m.
