DAY 2 RECAP
CROMWELL, CONN., June 23, 2015 – Tuesday marked Family Day at the Travelers Championship presented by Farmington Bank. The day was filled with free golf activities, including lessons with local Connecticut Section PGA professionals. Equipment manufacturers brought their latest clubs which fans were able to test out on the practice facility at TPC River Highlands.
Operation Shower presented by ConnectiCare took place, showering about 40 expectant military wives with baby gifts. Speakers included Nathan Grube, Tournament Director; Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Travelers; and PGA TOUR professional Hunter Mahan, who played an interactive game with the expecting mothers and offered special prizes to the winners.
Other events throughout the day included the 15½ contest for the PGA TOUR players. During the practice round, PGA TOUR Professionals were given a chance to hit at The Umbrella at 15½, a floating green in the pond between the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes in the shape of Travelers’ iconic red umbrella logo. Travelers donates $10,000 for the player who is closest to the pin to the charity of his choice. This year’s winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 24.
The Drive, Chip, and Putt Local Qualifying Challenge took place, where youth from across the region traveled to TPC River Highlands to compete for an opportunity to advance to the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship, culminating the Sunday before the Masters in April 2016 at Augusta National Golf Club.
The Web.com Small Business Summit was offered for free to help small businesses learn how to successfully market their business online.
