THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR THE BLUMSHAPIRO 5K FOR CAMP COURANT

Participants can register now to run, walk or donate to benefit Hartford’s Camp Courant 

HARTFORD, Conn., March 31, 2015 – Registration is open for the BlumShapiro 5K for Camp Courant at the Travelers Championship. The premier kickoff event for the 2015 Travelers Championship will take place on Saturday, May 2, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. Individuals and groups are encouraged to run, walk and donate to benefit Hartford’s Camp Courant, the largest FREE day camp in the nation.

“We are excited to kick off the 2015 Travelers Championship with the BlumShapiro 5K,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “The BlumShapiro 5K brings adults and kids together to raise money to support Hartford’s Camp Courant. We are thrilled to provide runners with enhanced post-race activities this year for the entire family to enjoy.”

The seventh annual BlumShapiro 5K welcomes all runners and walkers who wish to participate. The course winds around the roads that line the fairways and greens of TPC River Highlands. The BlumShapiro 5K begins with the Aetna Kids Run at 10:30 a.m., followed by the race and walk at 11:00 a.m. All post-race activities will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Hartford’s Camp Courant is the oldest and largest FREE summer day program in the country. Founded in 1894, Camp Courant provides a FREE summer camp experience for over 1,000 Hartford children, ages 5 to 12, that promotes positive youth development and healthy lifestyle choices through active learning and fun activities. All individual funds raised, plus $10 from each race entry, will go directly to Hartford’s Camp Courant.

New for 2015, the BlumShapiro 5K will feature enhanced post-race activities for participants to enjoy. After the race, complimentary food will be available to all participants courtesy of Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque. Also, Michelob ULTRA will be onsite supporting the event.

This year the BlumShapiro 5K is proud to partner with Aetna for the Kids Run and also additional activities. Both before and after the race, children will be able to enjoy mini golf, inflatables, clowns, jugglers, face painters, balloon artists, caricatures and more.

Supporting partners for the BlumShapiro 5K for Camp Courant include AARP CT and Aetna. Race partners include Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque, Ben and Jerry’s, Coca Cola, Dunkin Donuts, Hartford Marathon Foundation, iHeart Media, Michelob ULTRA, Powerstation Events and Tyler English Fitness.
