Fredrik Jacobson Returns For Media Day

On May 1, Fredrik Jacobson returned to the site of his first PGA TOUR win at TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship annual Media Day. In the morning, Fredrik did an interview with ESPN’s Chris Berman in front of over 200 sponsors who came out for the MetroHartford Alliance’s Rising Star Breakfast. The day continued when local, regional and national media came in for the press conference, which gave them a chance to ask questions to the Travelers Championship defending champion.

In his opening speech to the media, Travelers Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Andy Bessette presented Fredrik with a gift from Travelers and the tournament. The gift was a tournament branded ping-pong paddle inside of a special hardcover customized case with the words “Travelers Championship Fredrik Jacobson 2011 Champion” on the outside. Jacobson was asked by the media who the best ping-pong player on the PGA TOUR was, and he replied “with the new paddle, I would have to say me.”

Besides the paddle, there were plenty of items the 37-year-old Swede talked about, including his family life, growing up in Sweden and playing other sports. One of the stories he kept referring to over the course of the interview session was how he promised his daughter Emmie a trophy last year after he kept coming back tournament after tournament empty handed. While it added a lot of pressure to him, he eventually got it done at the 2011 Travelers Championship.
