Early Commit Zach Johnson Wins Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

Zach Johnson shot a final round 72 to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and earn his eighth career PGA TOUR victory. Johnson is committed to play in the 2012 Travelers Championship, June 18-24 at TPC River Highlands.

Johnson headed into the final hole of regulation with a three-shot lead and made a routine par out of the greenside bunker to seal the victory – or so he thought. Unfortunately, Johnson forgot to move his ball marker back after shifting it out of his playing partner’s line before his final putt. Luckily, the two-stroke penalty didn’t affect the final standings for the tournament, but certainly made it interesting when they both went in to sign their final round scorecards.

With the victory, Johnson moved up to third in the current FedExCup standings, just behind past champion Hunter Mahan (2nd) and Dufner (1st). His victory was the first since his win at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in 2010. Johnson is having very successful season on the PGA TOUR in 2012, earning a second place finish at the RBC Heritage and a tie for second at THE PLAYERS Championship two weeks ago.
